What if we don’t have anything for people to transition to?
Session 2.3 · Note 4
When There’s Nothing to Transition To
You might be in the position where you have no more capacity to offer other groups for people to transition to, and that’s OK. Here are some ideas for what you might be able to do in those circumstances.
Key Ideas
- Think ahead - when you register people to your group, ask permission to stay connected to them in the future - this means you can send them information about other events or groups even when they’ve left. If you use something like Mailchimp segment your emails so they only get age appropriate invites to events and services. Invite them to join relevant Facebook pages. There may be things a year or so down the line they’d like to know about.
- When parents and carers leave, you might want to ask them how or if they’d like to stay connected to the group. They may want to stay in the group as a helper or have an idea you haven’t thought about.
- Look at the first question in this part for ideas for one-off events that you can easily put on that people might like to come to - for example:
- Tea and tissues after the first day at school drop off
- Baptism reunion picnics
- Summer holiday meet ups in the local park or an autumn welly walk
- Christmas craft morning
- Don’t forget other local churches – you might be able to signpost to things they do so families can continue their journey with church and God.
