Teaching Chat and Catch

Chat and Catch is the fourth Key Tool. Chat and Catch is about prayer and growing a one to one connection with God. Many children, young people and adults aren’t familiar with this idea. Many people are used to a model of prayer that promotes talking to God without any expectation of his joining in. Not everyone is aware of the breadth of ways God communicates with us - through the bible, dreams, using our senses and emotions, messages from others, for example.

When we introduce people to a conversational model of prayer it can be profoundly impactful and freeing for them, helping them recognise how they hear God and how they prefer to communicate with him. It enables a one to one relationship with God that helps to deepen and root faith.

We can model and teach a conversational style of prayer in all our groups, recognising that prayer doesn’t just involve words, but feelings, thoughts, our senses, our bodies, the Bible and others. When we do this when parents and carers are present we not only help them grow a one to one, connected relationship with God, but give them ideas and experiences that will help them share Chat and Catch with their children.
